Your Balances

When you process payments through Breeze, your funds are held across two balances.

Balance #1 · Settlement Balance

Holds everything your users pay you

This is money that your users have deposited or paid (minus any refunds and fees), received in fiat (USD). These funds are held by Breeze and are pending allocation. On each settlement day, your Settlement Balance is used to (1) top up your Payout Escrow if needed, and (2) settle the remainder to your bank account.

Balance #2 · Payout Escrow

Funds instant withdrawals for your users

This is your user payout escrow. It funds your users' withdrawals (e.g. prize payouts, cashouts). When a user requests a withdrawal, Breeze delivers the funds via the rail selected by the user. Available payout methods include RTP (Real-Time Payments), FedNow, Pay to Card, and ACH.

Why Are There Two Balances?

Breeze processes both sides of your business — we collect payments from your users in fiat and we help facilitate payouts to your users. The two balances reflect these two functions:

  • Settlement Balance holds incoming fiat funds before they're ready to settle
  • Payout Escrow is always ready to fund your users' withdrawals
🚧

These two balances move independently

A high Settlement Balance does not mean the Payout Escrow is topped up. They rebalance on each settlement day. See Flow of Funds for the full picture.
